On July 1, 2025 Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Corporation (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Osaka; Representative Director, President & CEO: Akihiro Tsujimura; hereinafter, "MTPC") reported that MTPC has taken a new step forward as a member of the Bain Capital Private Equity, LP (together with its affiliated group companies, hereinafter, "Bain Capital"), following the transfer of all shares of MTPC from Mitsubishi Chemical Group Corporation to BCJ-94, a special purpose company indirectly owned by investment funds advised by Bain Capital.

Furthermore, at the Board of Directors Meeting held today, it was resolved that the company name will be changed to Tanabe Pharma Corporation effective December 1, 2025. The new company name will be officially approved at an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders to be held in the future.

MTPC was founded in 1678 and is headquartered in Doshomachi, Osaka, the birthplace of Japan’s pharmaceutical industry. MTPC is focusing on ethical pharmaceuticals and committed to advancing public health and contributing to society by creating innovative pharmaceuticals. MTPC is also committed to realizing its MISSION of "Creating hope for all facing illness" through innovation in the disease areas of central nervous system, immunology and inflammation, diabetes and kidney, and oncology.
By becoming member of Bain Capital, a firm with a strong and rich expertise in the healthcare sector, MTPC aims to accelerate its sustainable growth and global expansion. MTPC will further strengthen its R&D capabilities and promote external collaborations to create new value.
Intent of the New Company Name
The new company name, "Tanabe Pharma," reflects our commitment to further global growth as an R&D-driven pharmaceutical innovator, while honoring the legacy of the former Tanabe Seiyaku, one of the world’s oldest pharmaceutical companies. Aligned with this change, a total of 12 affiliated companies in Japan and overseas that are operating under the name "Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma" will gradually adopt the unified name "Tanabe Pharma." This brand unification aims to enhance global recognition of Tanabe Pharma Corporation and strengthen our presence as a global pharmaceutical company.
The symbol mark, representing hands gently enfolding the health of people around the world, will continue to be used by Tanabe Pharma Group across both domestic and international affiliates, as it remains a symbol of the Group’s boundless potential and aspirations for the future as well as the trust it has earned from society. The corporate color, blue, which symbolizes the intelligence, technological excellence, and ethical integrity expected of a pharmaceutical company, as well as the proactive spirit with which we engage the creation of pharmaceuticals that benefit people around the world, will also remain unchanged.
There will be no changes to our current business operations, products, services, or contractual terms, and we will continue to serve patients, healthcare professionals, and business partners as we have to date. Even after the transition to the new company, we remain committed to addressing past drug-related incidents with sincerity and responsibility, including the continued support and relief of those affected.
